| Description | One of the best preserved timber framed halls in the country, the Guildhall was built around 1390 as a meeting place for the Guild of Corpus Christi and was used as the Town Hall from the late 15th century to 1876. It houses a 17th century town library, which has many rare books, and the Great Hall. It is believed that Shakespeare performed here during Tudor times and Leicester's first police force was based here. Two of Leicester's notorious criminals, can be found lurking in the Victorian police cells. |
